MUSCAT, May 25

The Oman Martial Arts and Self-Defence Committee (OMMAC), in cooperation with Dr Nina Alipour, ISKA Oman Director, will organise the Omani Amateur Kickboxing Championship on July 24–25 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.

The championship is set to bring together amateur kickboxing athletes from clubs, academies and sports centres across the Sultanate of Oman as part of efforts to strengthen combat sports development and identify promising talents capable of representing the country in future regional and international events.

According to an official invitation issued by the Oman Martial Arts and Self-Defence Committee, the event aims to provide a competitive platform for Omani athletes practicing kickboxing, while contributing to raising technical standards and expanding the base of participants in the sport.

The committee stated that the championship is being organised in collaboration with ISKA, one of the internationally recognised governing bodies in kickboxing, with the objective of aligning local competitions with approved international technical and organisational standards.

Dr Nina Alipour, ISKA Oman Director, said this championship represents an important step in supporting the continued growth of combat sports in Oman. The focus of this initiative is not only on organising competitions, but also on encouraging professional development, international standards, and long-term athlete growth.

“We are proud to stand alongside athletes in this journey and help create meaningful opportunities for them to gain international experience through future ISKA World Championship activities. We also appreciate the support and cooperation of the Oman Martial Arts and Self-Defence Committee in helping move this vision forward,” she added.

Following the championship, selected athletes are expected to participate in a specialised training camp as part of preparations for future ISKA World Championship events in Spain and China.

The event is also expected to play a role in promoting a culture of fair competition and encouraging athletes to continue their development pathway toward higher-level championships and national team opportunities.

OMMAC noted that supporting combat sports athletes remains part of its broader vision to invest in youth potential and strengthen Oman’s presence in regional and international sporting arenas through structured and professionally organised events.

The committee called on clubs and sports centres involved in kickboxing activities to participate actively in the championship and nominate suitable athletes to compete in the event.

Registration and coordination for participation are being conducted through Optimal Performance Sports, according to the organising committee.

The championship comes amid growing interest in combat sports in Oman, particularly kickboxing and mixed martial arts, with several local initiatives and competitions contributing to the expansion of the sport in recent years.
