MUSCAT: A paediatric surgery team from Sultan Qaboos University Hospital at the University Medical City successfully performed a near-total pancreas removal surgery (pancreatectomy) for a 12-week-old infant by using minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

The surgery, the first of its kind in Oman, formed part of efforts to promote specialised medical care, develop high-precision health services and localise modern treatment technologies. It was conducted under the auspices of Dr Zainab bint Nasser al Balushi, Senior Consultant in Paediatric Surgery, with the participation of a multidisciplinary medical and nursing team.

This type of delicate surgical intervention figures among advanced procedures used to treat some complex cases in children. It calls for highly specialised expertise, in addition to the use of modern equipment to ensure the best possible outcomes. - ONA
