

MUSCAT, MAY 22
The Oman Committee for University Sports (Ocus) concluded successfully the 2026 universities and colleges football season following an exciting final round which witnessed strong competition among higher education institutions from across the Sultanate of Oman. The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) emerged as champions of the 2026 football championship after defeating Military Technology College 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out during the final match held at the football ground of the Military Technology College.
The final encounter concluded in the regular time in a highly competitive atmosphere before the University of Technology and Applied Sciences succeeded in securing the title through penalties to secure an impressive campaign throughout the tournament.
Muscat University claimed the bronze medal after recording a convincing 2-0 victory over Sohar University in the third-place playoff match.
The road to the final comprised intense semifinal clashes as the University of Technology and Applied Sciences edged Sohar University 1-0 to secure their place in the title match, while Military Technology College advanced to the final after overcoming Muscat University by the same scoreline.
Following the final match, Hisham bin Juma al Sinani, Director General of Sports Welfare and Development, presided over the closing ceremony and awarded medals to the top three teams. Individual awards and recognitions were also presented to outstanding players who delivered exceptional performances during the tournament.
The football championship concluded with several notable statistics reflecting the competitive level of the event. A total of 82 goals were scored across 20 matches throughout the tournament. Sohar University earned the award for the best attacking team, while Muscat University received recognition as the tournament’s best defensive side.
14 TEAMS
The championship featured participation from 14 universities and colleges, with the competition running from May 5 to May 20 and delivering 15 days of exciting football action. The participating teams included Sohar University, Al Buraimi Vocational College, University of Nizwa, Oman Dental College, Al Buraimi University College, University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Global College of Engineering and Technology, Military Technology College, A'Sharqiyah University, Muscat University, Gulf College, German University of Technology in Oman, Majan University College and National College of Automotive Technology.
The football championship marked the conclusion of a busy and successful 2026 sporting season organised by the Oman Committee for University Sports. The season featured a wide range of sporting competitions and student activities throughout the academic year.
The annual programme began with the padel tournament in January, followed by the E-games competition in February. The same month also featured the beach volleyball championship for universities and colleges, in addition to the Korathon event which continued through February and March.
The girls’ bowling championship was also organised during February and March, while the women’s 3x3 basketball event took place in March. Swimming, athletics and badminton championships were held in April before the volleyball and football events concluded the season in May.
