MUSCAT: Oman’s first professional wrestler Anas al Riyami, professionally known as ‘Anas Rex’, is set to make debut in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, taking on the top contender for the Arab Championship.
Anas’ venture will also be a major milestone in Omani sports as he prepares to compete for a Saudi professional wrestling promotion. This appearance will make him the first Omani professional wrestler to compete in Saudi Arabia, while also marking the fourth different country in which he has represented the Sultanate of Oman in professional wrestling.
Anas Rex has become a pioneer in a field of sport that remains relatively new within the region. Throughout his journey, he has represented Oman in multiple international appearances, helping open doors for aspiring Omani talent passionate about professional wrestling.
His participation in Saudi Arabia will be far from ordinary, as Anas Rex is scheduled to compete against the number one contender for the Arab Championship, in what is considered one of the biggest challenges of his professional career and an opportunity to further showcase his abilities on a regional stage.
“This opportunity represents a major step in my professional wrestling journey and a historic moment for Oman. One of the biggest challenges is carrying the responsibility of being the first Omani professional wrestler to compete in Saudi Arabia and continuing to represent my country at the highest level. Competing against top talent, especially the number one contender for the Arab Championship, is never easy, but I see challenges as opportunities to prove myself and grow,” Anas told Oman Observer.
