Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has clarified reports circulated on social media regarding the prices of construction materials and the rates of increase witnessed in local markets.
The authority said that the circulated figures on price increases are inaccurate and do not reflect the actual levels of monitored prices. It explained that the rate of change in iron prices during the period from February to May 2026 did not exceed 12 per cent, while cement prices recorded an increase rate of 18 per cent.
The CPA pointed out that construction material prices in local markets may witness varying increases from time to time due to supply and demand factors, as well as changes in import, shipping and production costs associated with raw materials and influenced by economic developments in the region.
The authority also affirmed that it has intensified its inspection campaigns to monitor construction material prices across various markets and ensure that current conditions are not exploited. These efforts resulted in the detection of a number of violating establishments, against which the necessary legal measures have been taken in accordance with the applicable regulations.
The CPA stressed its continued implementation of inspection campaigns and called on all suppliers to adhere to transparency and comply with regulations. It also urged consumers to report any violations through official channels and called on the public to verify the accuracy of information before publishing or circulating it and to obtain information from official and reliable sources.
