SUR: The Environment Authority (EA) and the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate at a meeting discussed means of enhancing the sustainable management of natural reserves. The meeting was also aimed at improving the efficiency of environmental and developmental plans.


This seeks to achieve a balance between conserving natural resources and supporting sustainable development and tourism projects in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate.


The meeting was attended by Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of Al Sharqiyah South, and representatives from government entities and stakeholders.


The meeting reviewed updates on the initiative to develop management plans for the Ras Al Hadd Turtle Reserve. It also examined completed technical work and studies related to improving management mechanisms and preserving biodiversity and natural habitats within the reserve.


Discussions addressed a number of proposed projects within the reserve and its surrounding areas. The meeting also considered the environmental impact assessment study for the waterfront and coastal protection project in Ras Al Hadd.


Emphasis was laid on adhering to approved environmental standards and requirements to ensure the preservation of coastal ecosystems and natural habitats of marine organisms, thereby contributing to sustainable development in the governorate.


The meeting further addressed the Ras Al Hadd Lighthouse Project. Environmental and regulatory aspects associated with the project were discussed, along with mechanisms to align it with the reserve's protection objectives. The aim is to enhance the tourism, heritage and environmental assets that distinguish Ras Al Hadd area. - ONA
