MUSCAT: Oman’s national youth football team have entered an important phase of preparation with an overseas training camp in Egypt from May 11 to 18, as head coach Hamad al Azzani continues to assess his squad ahead of a busy period of international commitments.

The camp forms part of the technical programme designed to prepare the team for upcoming regional and continental competitions, including the Arab Cup, the West Asian Championship and the Asian qualifiers for the AFC U-19 Asian Cup.

Al Azzani has named a 24-player squad for the Egypt camp, which includes: Hassan al Hinai from Bahla; Yazan al Khaldi and Saad al Maamari from Saham; Ali al Alawi, Moath al Hinai, Mubarak al Amri and Ahmed al Rahbi from Seeb; Abdullah al Saadi, Ibrahim al Qasmi, Al Hassan al Qasmi, Ahmed al Amrani, Fahad al Mashaikhi, Ziyad al Faraji, Mazin al Hinai, Al Waleed al Buraidi and Ahmed al Rawahi from Al Amerat; Fahad Bait Rabee and Mohammed al Sameen from Al Nasr; Mohammed al Hashem and Abdulaziz al Manwari from Al Musannah; Issam al Mukhaini and Abdullah al Araimi from Al Orouba; Ahmed al Fahdi from Izki; and Al Azhar al Saadi from Al Suwaiq.

During the camp, Oman is scheduled to play two international friendly matches against Egypt on May 14 and 17. The two fixtures are expected to provide the technical staff with a clearer picture of the players’ readiness, tactical discipline and ability to respond to match pressure against strong opposition.

Al Azzani will also use the camp to monitor the physical condition of the players, their understanding of tactical duties and the level of cohesion within the group, particularly as the squad continues to change ahead of the next stage of preparation.

The Egypt camp follows the team’s recent internal gathering in Muscat from April 20 to May 2, which featured 26 players. During that camp, Oman played two preparatory matches against military teams, losing 3-1 to the Royal Navy of Oman before drawing 1-1 with the Royal Army of Oman.

The technical staff have made several changes across recent squads, with a number of regular names and overseas-based players left out as Al Azzani continues to shape the group according to his current technical plans and long-term assessment.

That previous camp also reflected the coaching staff’s intention to broaden the selection base, with 15 new names brought into the setup. Seven players were promoted from the junior national team, while eight others earned their first call-ups after impressing in the 2025-2026 youth league season.
