The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) issued a safety warning over a children’s coloured candle toy marketed under the Odoo brand, citing potential health risks linked to hazardous substances.

In a statement, the Authority said the alert concerns the product “Odoo Creative Candles – Edition Four” (model No. B-19180-318), manufactured in China. Laboratory testing indicated the possible presence of trace amounts of asbestos, a material known to pose serious health risks upon exposure.

The CPA noted that it has followed up on the alert through official channels and carried out field inspections and market checks by its enforcement teams. No authorised distributor for the product was identified within the Sultanate of Oman, suggesting it may have entered the local market through unofficial means such as online purchases or imports from neighbouring countries.

Consumers have been urged to immediately stop using the product and ensure it is kept out of reach of children. The authority also called on the public to verify the safety and origin of children’s toys prior to purchase and to adhere to guidelines and warnings issued by relevant authorities.

The CPA reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring unsafe products, acting on related alerts, and intensifying inspection and awareness campaigns to safeguard consumers and enhance product safety standards in the market.
