Muscat: The 38th Gulf Traffic Week, organized by the Royal Oman Police under the slogan "Cross Safely," will begin tomorrow, Sunday, and continue until May 7, with the participation of relevant government institutions and private sector companies.

Brigadier Engineer Ali bin Salim Al-Falahi, Director General of Traffic at the Royal Oman Police, said that the slogan for this year's Gulf Traffic Week, "Cross Safely," carries an awareness message focused on protecting pedestrians and reducing pedestrian accidents.

It reflects several key messages, including promoting a culture of road safety by encouraging the use of pedestrian crossings and adherence to traffic signals. Safe crossing also reduces accidents and injuries, especially in crowded areas, on highways, and in front of schools and markets.

He added that Traffic Week, organized by the Royal Oman Police through its Directorate General of Traffic, is one of the most important awareness events and plays a significant role in enhancing road safety.

It is crucial for raising traffic awareness, reducing traffic accidents, educating students, and promoting social responsibility by supporting institutional partnerships between various governmental and private entities and individuals to build a traffic-conscious society, reduce accidents, and protect lives and property.

He pointed out that the activities of Traffic Week are diverse, as they include awareness and educational activities that target all segments of society through the establishment of traffic exhibitions in shopping centers and private places in all governorates, the organization of lectures and educational courses in schools, universities, governmental and private bodies, holding radio and television meetings, and holding a participatory consultative seminar with several governmental and private bodies on the topic of pedestrian safety being everyone’s responsibility.
