Oman athletes wrap up Arab Athletics campaign

Oman’s young athletes ended their campaign in the 21st Arab Youth Athletics Championships, which took place in Tunisia since last Sunday and concluded on Thursday. One of the key performances came from sprinter Ahmed bin Qais al Jabri, who qualified for the final of the men’s 100 metres event after a strong showing in the earlier rounds.


In the final, Al Jabri finished in sixth place with a time of 11.12 seconds, competing against some of the region’s fastest rising athletes. The gold medal in the event was claimed by Abdulquddus Ali of the UAE, who clocked an impressive personal best of 10.59 seconds. Saudi Arabia’s Faisal Hassan al Asmari secured second place with a time of 10.81 seconds, while UAE’s Abdulahi Moshood finished third in 10.86 seconds.


Al Jabri also continued his campaign in the men’s 200 metres event late on Wednesday, where his challenge ended in the semifinals with a fifth place in 22.39 seconds. From this heat, Saudi’s sprinter Faisal Hassan, Adam Fourar from Morrocco, Alaa Samul Ahmed from Bahrain and Said Omar from the UAE secured slot to the final which took place late on Thursday.


In the middle-distance category, Oman’s Al Yazan bin Rashid al Shamsi took part in the men’s 800 metres race, finishing in eighth place with a time of 1:57.43 minutes. The race was won by Morocco’s Imad Bouchajda, who delivered a strong performance to secure gold with a personal best of 1:51.52 minutes. Egypt’s Zeyad Mohamed Farouk claimed second place with a time of 1:52.38 minutes, while Tunisia’s Sakka Mohamed Sakka secured third place with the same timing.


SAADA IN WOMEN'S 200M FINAL


On the women’s side, Saada bint Amur bin Salim al Adhubi represented Oman in the 100 metres event. She progressed to the semifinal stage and finished fifth in her heat with a time of 13.43 seconds, showing determination against a competitive field. The women’s 100 metres title was won by Bahrain’s Raihanah Garoubah, who clocked 11.55 seconds. UAE’s Arwa Ali finished second with a time of 12.00 seconds, while Morocco’s Maria Saadi secured third place in 12.03 seconds.


Al Adhubi also competed at the women’s 200 metres event late on Thursday, as she managed to earn ticket to the final. In the semis, Oman’s Saada secured slot in the final as she ended in the third position in heat one after clocking 28.10 seconds while the first place went to Sufian Abdulghani from Bahrain while UAE sprinter Ezza Nasser ended in the second with a timing of 24.74 seconds.
