MUSCAT: The curtain falls this morning (Tuesday) on the School Sports League for Team Games at the sub-hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, with the finals of the girls’ volleyball and girls’ 3x3 basketball competitions bringing a highly competitive season to a close.


The closing ceremony is being held under the auspices of Dr Aisha bint Hamad al Darmaki, Member of the State Council, in the presence of Nadhira bint Ahmed al Harthi, Chairperson of the Oman School Sports Association.


Today’s action features the decisive second round of the girls’ 3x3 basketball competition, with six teams divided into two groups. Group A includes Al Dakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah South, and Al Batinah North, while Group B features Muscat, Al Batinah South, and Dhofar. The competition follows a round-robin format, with the top teams from each group advancing to the final, while the runners-up compete for third place.

The girls’ 3x3 basketball tournament began on Monday at the Middle East College sports hall, where 25 matches were played across five rounds, showcasing a high level of competition among the participating teams. Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, Al Batinah North, and Al Batinah South emerged as strong contenders following a series of impressive performances.


Muscat recorded notable victories, including dominant wins over Al Wusta (13–2) and (10–1), while Al Dakhiliyah displayed consistency with convincing results, including an 8–0 win against Al Buraimi and a 3–0 victory over Al Batinah North. Other teams, including Al Batinah North and Al Sharqiyah South, also delivered competitive performances throughout the tournament. In the girls’ volleyball competition, the second round produced exciting encounters. Muscat defeated Al Dhahirah in straight sets, while Al Dakhiliyah secured a similar victory over Dhofar. Al Batinah North continued their strong form with a 2–0 win against Al Dhahirah, and Al Sharqiyah North also overcame Dhofar by the same scoreline, leaving the title race wide open heading into the final matches today.


The School Sports League continues to serve as a vital platform for discovering and developing young sporting talent, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen school sports and expand participation, with the aim of preparing future national team players.
