

MUSCAT: Oman’s international umpire and holder of blue badge, Mohammed al Alawi, selected as one of the officials to officiate at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships which will take place in London during April 28 to May 10.
Al Alawi expressed his pride and gratitude following the announcement of the officials list for the prestigious global event which is one of the most significant competitions in table tennis, bringing together elite national teams, players and officials from around the world.
“This is a moment of great pride for me,” Al Alawi said. “I am honoured to be part of the officiating panel at the World Team Table Tennis Championships 2026 in London. It is one of the biggest events in the sport and represents the pinnacle of competition at the international level.”
Al Alawi, who hails from Ibri, told Oman Observer that this marks his first appearance at a major World Championships, making the milestone even more significant. “I am especially proud to be among the first Omani umpires to officiate at the finals of the World Team Championships. This achievement reflects the progress of Omani officiating and its growing presence on the international stage.” he added
“I attributed my selection to the continuous support provided to table tennis officials in the Sultanate of Oman as well as the ongoing efforts to develop national cadres in line with the highest international standards.” he explained
Throughout his officiating career, Al Alawi has overseen matches in numerous international tournaments across several countries including China, France, Italy, Spain, Singapore, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and India, in addition to Arab countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Qatar, Lebanon and Iraq. These experiences have played a key role in refining his skills and preparing him for major global events.
“Representing Oman at such prestigious championships carries a great responsibility,” he said. “It motivates us to deliver the highest standards of officiating, reflecting the positive image of Omani sport and strengthening the position of Omani umpires on the global map. He highlighted his eagerness to benefit from this experience by gaining further expertise and sharing knowledge with fellow officials back home, contributing to the development of the sport in Oman.” he clarified
Mohammed concluded his sincere appreciation to all those who supported him, particularly Oman Table Tennis Association and he affirmed that he will deliver a performance that reflects the trust placed in him and represents Oman in the best possible way.
