MUSCAT: The Oman Basketball Association (OBA) held its second board meeting of 2026 under the chairmanship of Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association (OBA), with members in attendance at the association’s headquarters at the Oman Olympic Committee and Sports Federations building in Bausher.


The meeting reviewed several key topics, including the association’s financial position, recent developments related to the Athlete Development Centres following updates to the working mechanism issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth; and preparations for the launch of the Athlete Development Centres League.


At the outset of the meeting, Eng Al Naabi expressed his appreciation to the committees formed within the association for their efforts and their role in supporting the success of the federation’s activities. He extended special thanks to the Competitions Committee and the Referees Committee for their effective management and implementation of basketball competitions during the 2025-26 sports season.


He also praised clubs for their active participation across the various league categories and for their cooperation and support of the association’s efforts. He stressed the importance of continuing to expand the game’s presence across sports clubs and maintaining stronger development and modernisation efforts to achieve positive long-term results.


The chairman affirmed that all the association’s resources are dedicated to promoting basketball and improving technical performance in cooperation with partners, to advance the game and support the federation’s activities.


During the meeting, the board reviewed the efforts made throughout the 2025-26 basketball season, while also discussing the federation’s financial position and the allocations of its various committees.


ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT CENTRES LEAGUE


The board also examined recent developments in the work of the Athlete Development Centres in light of the updated mechanism approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, including the different roles expected from partners. Discussions also covered ongoing preparations to stage the Athlete Development Centres League and the objectives behind the competition, particularly in terms of developing the game, ensuring quality outcomes and enhancing clubs’ ability to benefit from the centres’ outputs.


The board commended the unlimited support provided by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth to the centres, noting that such backing is essential to achieving the intended objectives.


The meeting further reviewed the latest developments regarding the federation’s bid to host the Gulf 3x3 Basketball Championship for men and women, as well as the Arab 3x3 Basketball Championship for youth and women, scheduled for October. The board also underlined the importance of preparing the national teams to participate in these championships.
