IBRA: Al Sharqiyah North Governorate organised a meeting about a project to renovate historical neighbourhoods.

Mahmoud bin Yahya al Thuhli, Governor of Al Sharqiyah North, said that the meeting aimed to promote the sustainability of Omani heritage through the restoration of the historical neighbourhoods that reflect the Omani identity.

The project reflects integration between the public sector and private sector, said Al Thuhli, noting that the project encourages community initiatives that serve as a cornerstone for investing in heritage sites and turning them into sustainable economic and tourism resources, he explained.

The meeting included a presentation about successful community initiatives in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate. The initiatives are scheduled to contribute to the generation of employment opportunities without compromising the historical aspect of archaeological sites.

On the sidelines of the meeting, some investment agreements were signed to enhance revenue from endowment and heritage assets.

The agreements included offering land plots for investors to establish commercial and economic projects and to renovate some facilities of Al Qanatir ancient village in the Wilayat of Ibra. — ONA
