MUSCAT: The Majlis Ash’shura on Tuesday approved a number of proposed requests with economic and social dimensions during its 13th regular session of the 3rd regular annual sitting (2025-2026) of the 10th term (2023-2027). The session was chaired by Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura.

In his address, Al Maawali noted that the Majlis Ash’shura continues to contribute to shaping development project plans and the progress programmes undertaken by state institutions, which positively reflects on achieving optimal stability and prosperity across all development sectors. He explained that the 13th Council session witnessed the discussion and approval of several proposed requests, building upon previous achievements and reinforcing the path of comprehensive, sustainable development in the Sultanate of Oman.

Among the matters discussed during the session was an urgent statement concerning the improvement of the road linking the Wilayat of Suhar to the mountainous areas of Wadi Heebi and Wadi Ahan, which connects to Al Dhahirah Governorate. The Council also approved proposed requests regarding the attraction of global low-cost airlines to Sohar Airport, the conversion of certain areas in the Wilayat of Qurayat into tourist zones, and the establishment of a national financing guarantee centre for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The council members also discussed proposed requests regarding the establishment of a centre for family studies and Omani women's affairs, as well as a request to exempt beneficiary families of the Family Income Support benefit from paying electricity and water bills.

It is worth noting that the Majlis Ash’shura will hold its 14th regular session today, Wednesday, which will be dedicated to discussing the statement of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, as part of the ministerial statements approved during the 3rd regular sitting of the Council's 10th term. — ONA
