Joint committee debates draft anti-drug law

MUSCAT: The joint committee of the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura held a meeting to discuss the articles of disagreement between the two councils regarding the draft law on combating narcotics and psychotropic substances, on Sunday.

A total of 16 disputed articles including articles in the original draft law referred from the Council of Ministers, in addition to a new article added by the Majlis Ash’shura, were discussed by the committee.

The committee agreed on a number of the disputed articles, while differences remained on others. It will submit its report to the joint session of the two councils to complete the discussion and make a final decision on them.

The meeting was attended by the members of both councils, along with the Secretary-General of the State Council, the Secretary-General of Majlis Ash’shura and a number of specialists from the secretariats of both councils.
