Iranian Media has claimed to have shot down a US plane deployed in the mission to locate the missing US pilot.

The Fars news agency said the aircraft was destroyed by a police commando unit called the Faraj Rangers and that it was a C-130 class aircraft.

It added that the plane was on a refuelling mission.

The New York Times has reported that hundreds of special forces troops and dozens of US warplanes and helicopters were deployed to locate the downed F-15 crew member in Iran. US aircraft struck Iranian convoys to keep them away from the area where the pilot was hiding.

Two US C-130 planes were meant to extract the pilots who got stuck in the sand in Iran and were destroyed by US forces to avoid capture. Iran's IRGC, however, claims they were shot down by Iranian fire.
