ADAM, APRIL 1

The Consumer Protection Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate launched the ‘Himma (Protection) Awareness and Safety Caravan’ on Tuesday, aiming to strengthen consumer awareness and foster a safe, sustainable commercial environment.

The initiative, held in cooperation with the Wali of Adam’s Office and several government entities, began its journey in the Wilayat of Adam under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Ali bin Said Zaabanoot, Wali of Adam, and will continue across other wilayats in coordination with local authorities.

Targeting a broad segment of society — including suppliers, traders, government employees, students, sports clubs, associations, and volunteer groups — the caravan promotes responsible consumer practices and enhances preventive culture in both traditional and online markets.

Wali of Adam highlighted the importance of the initiative: “Launching the caravan represents a key step in raising community awareness on consumer protection, especially with the rapid growth of e-commerce. These efforts educate individuals on their rights and responsibilities and support authorities in curbing improper practices.”

He noted that starting the caravan in Adam reflects a commitment to directly engage with society and foster trust-based commercial practices, supporting market stability and sustainable economic development.

The event featured an awareness seminar, including a speech by Ali bin Salim bin Marhoon al Hadhrami, Director of the Consumer Protection Department in Al Dakhiliyah, who shared the department’s achievements and ongoing projects. Specialised presentations covered safe online shopping by Radhya bint Abdullah al Riyami, cyber extortion risks by First Lieutenant Othman bin Abdullah al Maamari of the Royal Oman Police and food safety standards by Ahlam bint Rashid al Maamari from the Municipality of Adam.

Exhibition booths showcased services from participating entities and introduced the Himma platform, guiding consumers to make informed purchases and comply with market regulations.

Through these activities, the ‘Himma Awareness and Safety Caravan’ aims to strengthen consumer knowledge, promote community partnerships, and create a safer, more sustainable commercial environment for both consumers and businesses.
