Oman Meteorology has issued a weather alert for Sunday, forecasting widespread thunderstorms accompanied by hail and active downdrafts.

The weather system is expected to affect several regions, with effects observed in North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Al Dakhiliyah, Ad Dhahirah, South Al Batinah, and Muscat.

Key Hazards and Warnings:

Rainfall and Flash Floods: Varying intensities of rain and hail are expected, likely leading to torrential runoff in wadis and valleys.

Strong Downdrafts: Wind speeds are forecasted between 15 and 35 knots (28 to 46 km/h), which may cause localized damage or hazardous driving conditions.

Poor Visibility: Horizontal visibility will be significantly reduced during heavy downpours.

Additional scattered rain of low to moderate intensity is expected to reach parts of North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Musandam, and Dhofar.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has urged the public to exercise extreme caution. Residents are advised to avoid crossing wadis, stay away from low-lying areas, and refrain from any sea activities during this warning period.
