MUSCAT: The Oman Billiards and Snooker Committee concluded its Ramadhan Nights Snooker and Billiards Championships with two competitive finals that capped off a successful tournament marked by strong participation, solid technical standards and a positive sporting atmosphere.
In the snooker final, Qadeer Abbas was crowned champion after defeating Taha Bashir 4-2 in a match that featured competitive exchanges and a good technical display from both players. Abbas managed to make the difference in the decisive frames, relying on his composure and experience to seal the title.
In the 9-ball billiards final, Abdulraouf of the Philippines secured the title after beating Syria’s Ayham Ali 8-6 in a closely contested match. The final saw both players trade momentum over several frames before Abdulraouf edged ahead in the closing stages to clinch victory.
The championships attracted a number of players who delivered notable performances throughout the tournament, with the event maintaining a strong competitive rhythm and a high level of sportsmanship among participants during the Ramadhan evenings.
At the closing ceremony, the winners were crowned and participants honoured for their performances, with praise also directed at the overall standard of play and the event's organisation.
Hamoud al Harthy, Secretary of the Oman Billiards and Snooker Committee, said the tournament achieved its technical and organisational objectives and provided players with valuable competitive exposure. “The Ramdhan Nights Championships offered a good platform for players to compete in a well-organised setting and helped maintain the momentum of the sport during the holy month,” he said.
He added that, "we saw encouraging standards across both championships, especially in the latter stages, which reflects the players' commitment and the benefits of regular competition. These events are important for broadening participation, strengthening experience and supporting the continued development of billiards and snooker in Oman."
The committee has continued to use such tournaments as part of its efforts to activate the sport locally, widen the player base and create more regular opportunities for competition across different categories and nationalities.
