For many people, the holy month of Ramadhan is often associated with fasting, prayer and family gatherings. Yet beyond its spiritual dimension, Ramadhan can also become a powerful opportunity for personal transformation. Across different age groups, individuals often find that the discipline, reflection and structured routine of Ramadhan help them achieve goals they had postponed for months or even years.

For 23-year-old Salim Khalid, a university graduate from Suhar, Ramadhan became the perfect time to reset his lifestyle. “I realised that fasting actually helped me organise my day better”, he explains. Instead of staying inactive before iftar, Salim committed himself to a daily fitness routine. Each afternoon he spent time walking and doing light strength exercises. By the end of the month, he had built a consistent habit of exercise and felt more energetic than ever. “Ramadhan taught me that discipline in worship can also lead to discipline in health”, he says.

For Rahma al Ajmi, a 36-year-old mother of six, Ramadhan brought a remarkable personal transformation. After gaining significant weight over the past few years due to giving birth to twins, she decided that the month would mark the beginning of a healthier life. Every evening before iftar specifically at 4 pm, Rahma goes to the gym for resistance training sessions supervised by coach Sara. At first the routine felt challenging while fasting, but the results quickly motivated her to continue. By the end of Ramadhan, she had lost several kilogrammes and gained noticeable strength. “I used to think Ramadhan was a time to slow down”, she says with a smile. “But it turned out to be the month that changed my body and my confidence”.

For Ali Saif, a father of five, the month was about strengthening faith within his family. Determined to help his children develop a deeper relationship with the Quran, Ali introduced a simple daily routine after Taraweeh prayers. Each evening, he gathered his children to practice recitation and memorise short supplications and remembrances. Gradually, the children improved their recitation and confidence in reading the Quran. “What started as a small family activity became the most meaningful part of our evenings”, Ali reflects. “Ramadhan helped my children build a lifelong connection with the Quran”.

Meanwhile, Abu Bader, a 65-year-old retiree living with diabetes and high blood pressure, discovered unexpected health benefits during the holy month. With careful medical guidance, he adopted healthier eating habits and used the evenings for gentle walking after iftar. By the end of Ramadhan, his blood sugar levels had improved and he felt physically stronger. “Ramadhan reminded me that caring for health is also a form of gratitude”, he says.

Ramadhan also proved to be a productive period for professional growth. Noora al Kindi, a project manager in Muscat, used the quiet mornings and reflective atmosphere of the month to complete several long delayed work plans and strategic reports. “The mental clarity that comes with fasting helped me focus deeply”, she explains.

These stories illustrate that Ramadhan is more than a month of abstaining from food and drink. It is a season of discipline, reflection and possibility, one that allows people of all ages to reset priorities, chase meaningful goals and emerge stronger in body, mind, and spirit.
