MUSCAT: Students of Class 12 from 22 CBSE-affiliated Indian schools in Oman, along with peers in other GCC countries and Iran, are anxiously awaiting details on how their final results will be calculated.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the cancellation of the 12th board exams in light of the regional situation.
Syed Ahmad Salman, Chairman of the Indian School Board of Directors, told the Observer: “This decision has been made with the utmost consideration for the well-being of our children. Rather than keeping students in prolonged uncertainty, the Board has chosen a path that provides immediate clarity.”
He added, “This proactive step allows students to move forward without the mental burden of waiting for rescheduled dates in an unpredictable environment. While the specific mode of result declaration is yet to be announced, we are confident the evaluation criteria will be designed in the best interest of the students. CBSE has a proven track record of fairness, as seen during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Chairman Salman also reassured families about college admissions and career guidance: “Our Career Counsellors are available at all school branches to provide personalised support. The Board of Directors is here to assist students through every step of this transition.”
The announcement has received mixed reactions from students and parents. Many students, particularly from the Commerce stream, were unable to attend any exams, leaving some feeling deprived of proper closure.
A parent told the Observer: “If there is relief that uncertainty has ended, there is also uneasiness about my son’s future. He studied extensively, but now all that effort feels uncertain. I hope this won’t affect his future adversely.”
A concerned mother noted, “Many students took pre-board exams lightly, planning to perform well in the final exams. Now, both parents and children are anxious and disappointed.”
The CBSE has stated that the mode of declaration of results for Class 12 candidates in these countries will be communicated separately in due course.
