Use firearms or firecrackers Illegally? Expect RO 200 fine

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a strong warning to residents and visitors regarding the unauthorized use of firearms and firecrackers, stressing that violations could lead to fines and imprisonment.

Under Article 25 of the Weapons and Ammunition Law, any individual who discharges a firearm or sets off fireworks, rockets, or explosives without prior police permission may face a fine of up to OMR 200. The law aims to ensure safety in residential areas, public roads, and other unauthorized locations.

The penalties increase for actions carried out during private gatherings, community events, or public celebrations, where violators can face a fine of up to OMR 300 or imprisonment for up to three months. Police approval is mandatory for the use of firearms or explosives in public or communal settings.

ROP emphasized that these measures are in place to protect both individuals and the community during festivities. Authorities urge the public to comply strictly with safety regulations and to report any unauthorized use of firearms or fireworks to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution (PP) has warned that some individuals have been using firecrackers and fireworks, especially in residential neighborhoods.

"To preserve public peace and the safety of citizens and residents, everyone should abide by applicable laws and regulations and to refrain from any practices that could disrupt public order, disturb others, or endanger their safety," the Prosecution said.

Furthermore, some individuals have been observed installing non-compliant exhaust systems on vehicles and driving them on the roads. This results in loud and disturbing noises that disrupt the peace of residents, constituting a violation of Article (25) of the Weapons and Ammunition Law and Article (49), Paragraphs (5) and (7) of the Traffic LawIn light of these practices, the Public Prosecution affirmed its commitment to taking firm legal action against the perpetrators, bringing them to justice, and demanding the imposition of the most severe penalties prescribed by law.
