NIZWA: The seventh edition of the ‘My Home’ initiative, implemented by the Nizwa Volunteer Team affiliated with the Social Development Committee in the wilayat, was launched on Friday in Nizwa.
The ‘My Home’ project aims to provide dignified housing for underprivileged families and orphans in the Wilayat of Nizwa through a range of sustainable housing initiatives.
These include constructing new homes for families who are homeless or living in uninhabitable conditions, renovating and maintaining damaged houses, and purchasing ready-made homes in emergency situations requiring swift intervention to house eligible families.
Ali bin Nasser al Busaidy, Vice-President of the Nizwa Volunteer Team, said the 'My Home' initiative represents a model of community work built on cooperation and solidarity among members of society.
He explained that since its launch six years ago, the project has helped provide housing stability for several deserving families in Nizwa, thanks to the support of philanthropists and partner institutions.
The ceremony featured a video presentation highlighting the initiative’s journey since its inception and its achievements. It also included a recorded address by Shaikh Ahmed bin Saud al Siyabi, Secretary-General of the Office of the Grand Mufti, who underscored the importance of charitable work in strengthening the values of solidarity and compassion within the community.
The programme also included an artistic segment — a theatrical sketch performed by students of the University of Nizwa — portraying the spirit of the initiative and the transformative impact of volunteer work on the lives of needy families.
The event concluded with the honouring of several participants and the launch of the seventh edition of the initiative, which aims in its current phase to build three new homes for deserving families in the wilayat. The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Khalaf bin Salem al Ishaqi and attended by a number of officials, volunteers and supporters of community initiatives. – ONA
