

MUSCAT: Natural gas production in the Sultanate of Oman, including domestic output and imports, declined by 3.2 per cent by the end of January 2026 to reach 4.455 billion cubic metres, compared with 4.603 billion cubic metres during the same period in 2025, according to data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
Associated gas production fell sharply by 17.4 per cent to 899.5 million cubic metres, down from 1.089 billion cubic metres recorded during the same period last year. In contrast, non-associated gas production, including imports, increased by 1.2 per cent to 3.556 billion cubic metres, compared with 3.514 billion cubic metres in January 2025.
On the consumption side, demand for natural gas in industrial projects rose by 5.9 per cent to reach 2.566 billion cubic metres, compared with 2.423 billion cubic metres a year earlier.
Gas consumption in power generation plants recorded a stronger increase of 14.1 per cent, reaching 1.157 billion cubic metres by the end of January 2026, up from 1.014 billion cubic metres in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, gas consumption in oil fields, including losses, metre discrepancies and shrinkage factors, declined significantly by 38.1 per cent to 707.3 million cubic metres, compared with 1.143 billion cubic metres recorded a year earlier.
Gas usage in industrial areas, including industrial zones as well as Minerals Development Oman and Oman Cement, also recorded modest growth of 3.7 per cent, reaching 24.1 million cubic metres compared with 23.2 million cubic metres during the same period in 2025. — ONA
