In the context of the ongoing indirect discussions between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, facilitated by the Sultanate of Oman, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi, Foreign Minister, held a bilateral meeting on Wednesday evening in Geneva with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran.
The talks form part of Oman’s mediation efforts aimed at advancing diplomatic dialogue between the two sides and supporting constructive engagement.
Meanwhile, western media have drawn attention to the Sultanate’s balanced and trusted diplomatic role, highlighting its success in bringing the American and Iranian sides together, reducing regional tensions and helping steer efforts away from the prospect of military escalation.
The present negotiations are viewed as highly significant, as they establish a structured foundation for continued engagement and, for the first time, seek to formally document deliberations and positions concerning Iran’s nuclear programme.
Media reports suggest that Iran may be prepared to consider concessions involving a reduction in uranium enrichment levels to below 3.67 per cent — the ceiling set under the 2015 nuclear agreement. The reports further indicate that Iran’s missile programme will not be part of discussions at this stage.
During their meeting, the two ministers reviewed the latest developments and discussed the perspectives and proposals to be presented by the Iranian side in pursuit of an agreement on the Iranian nuclear file, based on the guiding principles agreed upon in the previous round of talks.
