

The Sultanate of Oman joined the world in celebrating World Tourist Guide Day in recognition of the vital role played by tourist guides in providing historical, cultural, and tourist information about landmarks, sites, and attractions, which allows visitors to enjoy and create enjoyable moments.
Anwar bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Head of the Tourist Guidance Department at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said that the licenses were issued by the Ministry up to the end of 2025 to 1,340 Omani tourist guides. English was the most frequently licensed language, and some guides were also licensed in other foreign languages such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and others.
Al-Mahrouqi stated that there is a growing interest among Omani women in pursuing the profession of tourist guiding, with 118 licenses issued to women by the end of last year.
He emphasized that the Ministry is committed to ensuring that both genders are involved in this profession, recognizing their partnership in implementing the plans and strategies designed to develop the tourism sector.
The Head of the Tourist Guidance Department stressed the importance of practicing the profession of tourist guiding and the pivotal role played by tourist guides in the tourism industry, encouraging interested Omani guides to enter this field. "He said that the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is seeking to increase the number of licensed guides proficient in foreign languages other than English, based on the needs of the sector, the diversity of tourist markets.
