The Sultanate of Oman has viewed with great interest the lists of coordinates and the map deposited by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, which contain infringements on the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait over its maritime zones and its fixed and stable submerged features.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Monday, the Sultanate of Oman affirmed its solidarity with the State of Kuwait regarding its sovereignty over all its maritime zones and submerged features.
The Sultanate of Oman called upon the Republic of Iraq to take into consideration the course of its historical and fraternal relations with the State of Kuwait, the principles of good neighbourliness, and the rules of international law, as well as the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, in accordance with the understandings, agreements, and bilateral memoranda of understanding signed between the two brotherly countries.
Meanwhile, a telephone call was held between Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, and Dr Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, to consult on current developments in the region.
During the call, both sides emphasised the importance of adhering to the principles of international law and respecting the sovereignty of states. They stressed the necessity of addressing disputes through peaceful means and constructive dialogue, contributing to the consolidation of security and stability, and achieving the aspirations of the region's peoples for development and prosperity. - ONA
