Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, said, “Today’s indirect negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America in Geneva concluded with good progress towards identifying common goals and relevant technical issues."

He added, “The spirit of our meetings was constructive. Together we made serious efforts to define a number of guiding principles for a final deal. The contribution of the IAEA Director-General was much appreciated. Much work is yet to be done, and the parties left with clear next steps before the next meeting."

Earlier, Sayyid Badr held a consultative meeting with Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of the US President, as well as Jared Kushner, prior to the convening of the Iran-US talks round held in Geneva under the aegis of the Sultanate of Oman.

The discussions encompassed a comprehensive assessment of the broader context surrounding the talks, coupled with an in-depth examination of the political and technical requirements essential for their success. Conducted in a realistic and constructive spirit, the consultative meeting sought to enhance prospects for mutual understandings aligned with the talks' objectives. Today's talks yielded tangible progress, establishing a foundation for their continued pursuit in the forthcoming period.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told state TV after Tuesday's talks that Iran and the United States agreed to "a set of guiding principles" laying the groundwork for a broader deal during talks in Geneva.

"Ultimately, we were able to reach broad agreement on a set of guiding principles, based on which we will move forward and begin working on the text of a potential agreement," Araghchi said, which he described as "more constructive" than the previous round earlier this month.

He added that once both sides had come up with draft texts for an agreement, "the drafts would be exchanged and a date for a third round (of talks) would be set".

Araghchi acknowledged, however, that it "will take time to narrow" the gap between both countries' positions. - Agencies
