AL MUSANNAH: The creek of Khor Al Qurm in the Wilayat of Al Musannah constitutes an important coastal environment in supporting the ecological balance in the Sultanate of Oman due to the fact that it provides a natural habitat for a number of marine organisms and birds.

Musallam bin Mubarak al Mahri, Director of the Environment Department in Al Batinah South Governorate, said that the Authority plays an active role in protecting coastal creeks through the implementation of environmental monitoring programmes, monitoring water quality, the cultivation of mangrove trees and the restoration of damaged natural habitats to ensure the sustainability of ecosystems.

Al Mahri said that the number of mangrove trees that were planted until the end of 2025 stood at 31,575. He explained that the project serves as a cornerstone in the protection of the vital ecosystem and supporting biodiversity.

Al Mahri pointed out that the mangrove seedlings are brought from the plantation of Muscat Municipality.

He added that the Environment Authority is joining hands with government departments, private sector establishments and civil society institutions to raise public awareness about the importance of coastal creeks and their environmental role.
