MANAH: An art exhibition entitled "A Window on Heritage" was inaugurated at the Oman Across Ages Museum in the Wilayat of Manah, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, on Wednesday. The exhibition is organised by the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (Nizwa Branch) and features participation from 13 branches of the university spanning the Sultanate of Oman's governorates, in addition to a number of government and private universities and colleges.
The exhibition is designed to identify and cultivate student talent in the visual arts, develop creative capacities, refine artistic sensibilities and encourage the production of works inspired by Oman's rich cultural heritage. It further seeks to elevate aesthetic awareness and artistic appreciation among students and the broader academic community, strengthen partnerships with cultural and artistic institutions, and establish a dedicated platform to showcase student contributions while enriching the national cultural landscape.
Dr Abdulaziz bin Mohammed al Hinai, Lead Supervisor of Visual Arts at the Directorate-General of Education in Al Dakhiliyah, stated that the exhibition originated from a comprehensive evaluation of student submissions to an art competition convened by the University of Technology and Applied Sciences across all its branches. The most exceptional works were subsequently selected for this exhibition, underscoring a steadfast commitment to nurturing student creativity and elevating the stature of the visual arts within academic circles.
He further elaborated that the exhibition encompasses 45 artworks spanning diverse visual arts disciplines, affording students new avenues to discover and refine their artistic talents within a stimulating, competitive environment complemented by specialised training programmes. These initiatives serve to spotlight emerging talent while consolidating awareness of the arts' intrinsic value, all within a sustainable framework designed to empower the rising generation to articulate their creativity with confidence and distinction.
The exhibition featured a competition to identify the most distinguished paintings. First place was awarded to Umayma bint Said al Rashidi of the Scientific College of Design. Second place was secured by Raya bint Saud al Harthy of A'Sharqiyah University. Third place was conferred upon Shaikha bint Hamad al Kalbani of Sultan Qaboos University.
The exhibition inauguration and awards ceremony were held under the auspices of Shaikh Dr Faisal bin Ali al Zeedi, Wali of Manah. — ONA
