The foundation stone of ‘Masar’ waterfront development project in the Wilayat of Sur was laid on Wednesday. The RO 2 million project is being developed through a partnership between the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate and Oman LNG.
The foundation stone ceremony was held under the auspices of Nasser bin Khamis bin Ali al Jashmi, Chairman of the Tax Authority.
Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of Al Sharqiyah South, said the ‘Masar’ waterfront development is one of the key development projects that promote healthy lifestyles by providing suitable environments for walking, cycling and outdoor activities, while also contributing to economic activity and investment opportunities within the wilayat.
Abdullah bin Salim al Hajri, Director-General of Al Sharqiyah South Municipality, said that the ‘Masar’ project marks a new phase in urban development along Sur’s seafront and reflects advanced principles of sustainable urban planning. He stressed that the governorate is keen to establish modern public facilities that meet the needs of all segments of society, while simultaneously supporting tourism and economic growth.
The ‘Masar’ waterfront development includes the construction of a dedicated pedestrian walkway and a separate cycling track, in addition to children’s play areas and public seating zones overlooking the sea. These components are designed to create an inclusive and attractive environment catering to different age groups and interests.
The project also includes the structural and service preparation of padel court facilities for investment purposes, creating opportunities for private sector participation in operating and managing sports facilities. In addition, the development will feature a range of commercial outlets aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and supporting local economic activity.
Facilities planned as part of the project include three restaurants, two cafés, a main building, prayer halls for men and women, two public restrooms, and eight commercial kiosks. The total built-up area of the project’s structures will reach approximately 2,487.56 square metres. The pedestrian walkway and cycling track will extend over a combined length of 1,865 metres, complemented by parking spaces designed to accommodate visitors and ensure ease of access.
