MUSCAT: The Haj pilgrims from the Sultanate of Oman will have ample time for preparations and to fulfil the government formalities as Saudi Arabia began the issuance of visas this week, according to an official from the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MoARA).
“The Saudi authorities have moved early on preparations for the next Haj. It is a step aimed at tightening planning and easing pressure during the peak season which is a great boon for the pilgrims,” a source from the ministry said.
The early start places the Kingdom nearly four months ahead of the rituals, setting the tone for a more structured and predictable pilgrimage season. Side by side, preparations at the holy sites are advancing alongside visa issuance.
“The accommodation agreements in Mecca have also been completed in full through the Nusk platform, clearing a major operational milestone early in the cycle,” he said.
In the Sultanate of Oman, the number of applicants has been on the rise and around 42,000 have registered online for Haj 2026, compared to 39,000 in 2025. Only 14,000 people would be selected for the same, according to the ministry.
While registration does not guarantee a spot, it is the first step in a transparent and structured selection process based on Oman’s allocated Haj quota. The ministry has outlined specific guidelines to ensure fairness and proper documentation, allowing successful applicants the opportunity to embark on this life-changing spiritual journey. This online registration process is essential for eligible Omanis and expatriates to secure a chance to perform the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.
In terms of demand, reports from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah suggest that as many as 750,000 pilgrims have registered so far. Packages have already been booked for 30,000 pilgrims directly from their home countries, reflecting early engagement with the system.
Around 485 camps have been allocated for international pilgrims, while 73 Haj affairs offices have completed their basic contractual arrangements.
The ministry said coordination is continuing with Haj affairs offices and service providers both inside and outside Saudi Arabia to finalise remaining operational details and ensure consistency across services.
