Gulf Youth Ice Hockey Challenge Cup concludes in Muscat

Muscat: The Fun Zone Ice Skating Hall in Muscat witnessed a memorable conclusion to the Gulf Youth Ice Hockey Challenge Cup, organised jointly by the Omani Skating Sports Committee and the Abu Dhabi Winter Sports Club.


The tournament delivered exciting competition among eight teams representing some of the region’s most promising young talents. Teams were distributed as follows: Sultanate of Oman participated with three teams competing in the Cubs and Juniors categories and from the United Arab Emirates, five teams representing clubs from Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain.


The teams competed across two groups, with four teams in the Cubs division and four in the Juniors division, creating a lively and highly competitive atmosphere on the ice at Fun Zone.


UAE TEAMS TOP, OMAN SECOND


The championship concluded with strong technical performances and thrilling contests. In Cubs Division, Dubai Sandstorm claimed first place, while Oman secured second after a heroic match that ended in a draw and was decided by penalty shootouts. In the Juniors Division, Al Ain Theebs were crowned champions, with Abu Dhabi Storms finishing runners-up.


The closing ceremony was attended by Saud al Aufi, Chairman of the Omani Skating Sports Committee, and Khalid al Habsi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Winter Sports Club Academy and Head of Delegation. Both officials presented trophies and medals to the winning teams.


The strong presence of parents from both Oman and the UAE provided exceptional moral support and motivation for the young players, adding a vibrant and positive spirit to the event. Organisers noted that this edition continues the success achieved during the previous tournament held in Al Ain.


At the conclusion of the championship, the organising committee expressed its sincere thanks and appreciation to all contributors, organisers and parents who played a vital role in the event’s success, helping deliver a tournament worthy of the growing stature of ice hockey in the region.
