Rustaq: Activities of Rustaq Winter 2026 kicked off on Sunday evening at the historic Rustaq Castle in South Al Batinah Governorate, presenting a comprehensive tourism, cultural and social platform for families and children. The events will continue until February 7, 2026, drawing wide public attendance and notable interaction from various segments of society.
The activities are organised by the Office of the Governor of South Al Batinah, in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, as part of joint efforts to highlight the historical, tourism and cultural components of Rustaq. The initiative also aims to enhance the role of the castle as a vibrant cultural landmark hosting community-oriented events, contributing to the revitalisation of tourism movement in the governorate.
The programme features a diverse range of heritage, artistic, theatrical and cultural performances. Folk bands present traditional Omani arts, alongside performances depicting historical figures, as well as artistic and musical operettas inspired by local heritage in a contemporary style. The programme also includes theatrical performances by specialised troupes, poetry evenings and cultural seminars addressing the history of Rustaq and its civilisational significance through the ages.
Children receive special attention through recreational competitions, interactive activities and talent shows aimed at nurturing creativity and strengthening national identity. In addition, a competition for the best photo or video documenting the events has been launched to encourage community engagement and innovative documentation of the festival.
The Rustaq Winter activities coincide with the organisation of an exhibition for home-based businesses, with the participation of productive families and artisans, contributing to the support of the local economy, empowering entrepreneurs and showcasing authentic Omani handicrafts.
In this context, Dr Hatem bin Salem al-Dohani, Assistant Director-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs and official spokesperson for South Al Batinah Governorate, said that Rustaq Winter activities form part of the governorate’s vision to showcase its tourism, cultural and economic assets in a manner that resonates with all segments of society.
He added that the events focus on introducing quality activities targeting families and children, while strengthening the presence of productive families and artisans. He noted that the governorate has consistently organised similar events across its wilayats, particularly during the winter season, given its moderate climate and scenic beauty, which make it an ideal outlet for families and a catalyst for outdoor recreation and community participation.
