MUSCAT: The National Teams and Coaches Committee of the Oman Handball Association (OHA) held a meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, OHA Chairman and Head of the Committee, with the attendance of committee members and the technical staff of the national men’s beach handball team, led by national coach Hamoud al Hassani and his assistant Jaber al Balushi.
The meeting focused on discussing and approving the preparation plan for the national team ahead of its participation in the sixth Asian Beach Games, scheduled to take place in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30. The committee reviewed the proposed schedule of domestic training camps, in addition to a proposed external training camp in Thailand, as well as approving a series of friendly matches against the Iranian national team to be held in Muscat.
This Asian participation represents an important milestone in the team’s journey, as it seeks to build on the major achievements recorded in recent years, most notably winning the 10th Asian Beach Handball Championship hosted by Oman in May 2025, as well as claiming the title of the Gulf Beach Games held in Muscat last April. The national team continues to benefit from a strong squad and accumulated experience at both continental and international levels.
The national team is set to officially begin its preparation phase on March 22, following the conclusion of the First Division Handball League. The programme will include intensive training sessions and technical and physical programmes aimed at enhancing players’ readiness and strengthening team cohesion ahead of the Asian competitions.
Following its return from Sanya, the team will continue its preparations for the IHF Beach Handball World Championships for men and women, scheduled to be held in Croatia in June, as part of a comprehensive preparation plan designed to maintain the team’s upward performance trajectory across major international events.
Oman’s national beach handball team qualified for the World Championships for the ninth time in its history after securing the title of the 10th Asian Beach Handball Championship held in Oman in May 2025, alongside Iran, which finished as runners-up in the same tournament.
