SALALAH: The Salalah Free Zone has announced the start of full operations at a new factory specialising in the manufacture of air conditioning units, marking another step in the growth of high-quality industrial investments in the zone.
The plant, operated by Engineering Industries Company, has an annual production capacity of around 70,000 units and represents an investment of approximately RO 4.62 million. Its launch follows an investment agreement signed in 2024 as part of ongoing efforts to attract direct industrial investments to the free zone.
Operating under an industrial licence within the engineering and electronics industries category, the factory will supply both the local market and export destinations. Its operational strategy focuses on strengthening its domestic presence while expanding exports to regional and global markets, including GCC countries, the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Europe and Asia. The company aims to leverage the Salalah Free Zone’s strategic location, advanced logistics network, and integrated infrastructure that support manufacturing industries.
The factory’s products meet international specifications and standards. The facility operates under the ISO 9001 quality management system, and its air conditioning units undergo rigorous testing in line with Gulf standards. The plant has also secured the Gulf Standardisation Mark, enhancing its competitiveness in both local and international markets.
Dr Ali bin Mohammed Tabouk, CEO of the Salalah Free Zone, said the launch reflects growing investor confidence in the zone’s business environment and highlights the success of efforts to attract value-added industrial projects. He noted that such investments contribute to economic diversification and the expansion of industrial exports.
Dr Jawad al Rashid, owner of the factory and Chairman of Engineering Industries Company, said the decision to establish the plant in the Salalah Free Zone was driven by its strategic location and ease of access to global markets, along with its integrated infrastructure and investor-friendly facilities. He added that these advantages have supported the factory’s expansion and export plans.
The project adds to a growing portfolio of industrial ventures in the Salalah Free Zone, reinforcing its role in strengthening industrial supply chains, increasing the manufacturing sector’s contribution to GDP, and positioning Oman as a regional industrial and logistics hub. — ONA
