The second edition of Oman Design Week commenced on Wednesday at Al Khuwair Square and continues until Saturday, January 31, taking place during the second week of activities within Muscat Nights 2026.

The event is jointly organised by Muscat Municipality and the Oman Design Association.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, in the presence of top dignitaries and senior officials.

This year, Oman Design Week is held under the theme 'Between Us', which explores shared spaces between individuals, cultures and ideas. The theme highlights design as a unifying human language that transcends form to convey meaning, reflecting concepts of communication, integration, and cultural dialogue through diverse artistic and creative experiences.

Eng Dana bint Abdullah Al Fannah al Araimi, Acting Director of the Central Design Department at Muscat Municipality, stated that organising Oman Design Week as part of Muscat Nights reflects the Municipality’s commitment to supporting the design sector and strengthening its role in urban and cultural development.

She explained that the event is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed between Muscat Municipality and the Oman Design Association, aimed at enhancing joint cooperation in the fields of design and innovation, supporting research activities and expanding areas of institutional partnership.

She added that this partnership seeks to empower Omani designers, highlight contemporary Omani identity, and establish an interactive platform that brings creativity and the community together, contributing to improved quality of life and the advancement of the design scene in Muscat.

The week features a diverse cultural and creative programme that includes design exhibitions, art installations, live workshops, and panel discussions bringing together a distinguished group of designers and artists from within Oman and abroad.

The programme also includes a dedicated marketplace supporting artists and designers by enabling them to showcase and sell their creative works and innovative products, in addition to presenting outstanding artworks with wide participation from local and international names.

The event serves as a cultural platform for all age groups, offering an integrated experience that caters to families and combines creativity, entertainment and knowledge.

The organisation of Oman Design Week underscores the role of design in enriching the cultural landscape, strengthening the creative economy in the Sultanate of Oman, supporting local talent, and opening avenues for cultural and intellectual exchange with global experiences, reflecting Oman’s position as a civilisational bridge between cultures.
