

LONDON: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, met with Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, at the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London, on Monday.
They discussed bilateral relations and cooperation and ways to enhance strategic partnership across various political, economic, developmental and investment fields. This included following up on the outcomes of the Strategic Dialogue Team and the Joint Working Group as well as implementing the programmes and action plans agreed upon by both sides, in a manner that serves the common interests of both countries and fosters bilateral cooperation.
The two sides also exchanged views on a number of developments of mutual interest, including the situations in the Republic of Yemen, Sudan and Iran.
The two ministers emphasized the importance of supporting efforts aimed at bolstering the ceasefire in Yemen and supporting political dialogue in a manner that guarantees unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen.
They also discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the need to ratchet up humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the population there. They discussed intensifying international efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire, supporting reconstruction efforts and reviving the peace process on the basis of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Regarding the Iranian nuclear issue, the two ministers emphasized the importance of creating the conditions necessary to restore diplomacy and resume negotiations. This, they affirmed, would contribute to reducing regional tensions, enhancing security and stability in the region and avoiding escalation and conflict.
On Sudan, the two ministers addressed the dire humanitarian situation and the urgent need for action towards a ceasefire and a truce that would allow UN aid agencies to carry out their humanitarian missions and pave the way for a political agreement between the warring parties.
