Eastern imperial eagle spotted in Al Buraimi Oasis Reserve

Al Buraimi: Specialists at the Environment Authority’s Biodiversity Department, Governorate of Al Buraimi, recently sighted and documented the presence of the Eastern Imperial Eagle in Al Buraimi Oasis Nature Reserve.

The bird of prey was spotted roaming the nature reserve’s towering mountains—evidence that the sanctuary serves as an important natural habitat for such birds of prey.

The Eastern Imperial Eagle is a migratory bird of prey that visits the region during winter, hailing from its breeding grounds in northern Asia and eastern Europe.

The Eastern Imperial Eagle is distinguished for its large size, powerful talons and sharp eyesight that helps it spot its prey from long distances. This eagle feeds mainly on small mammals and birds.

The sighting of the Eastern Imperial Eagle stems from efforts made by specialists to document biodiversity—including wild species, birds of prey and migratory birds. Such efforts enhance the environmental database and support plans for the protection and conservation of wildlife in the governorate.
