SADAH: The Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate has completed the maintenance and rehabilitation of the 'Ji' spring in the Wilayat of Sadah, one of the governorate’s rare natural springs.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard water resources, in coordination with the Office of the Wali of Sadah.
Located just 20 metres from the coast between the Hadbin area and the Niabat of Hasik, the 'Ji' spring remains unaffected by tides or high waves during the Khareef season, making it a unique natural feature.
Shaikh Ahmed bin Ali al Daree, Wali of Sadah, confirmed that the supplementary phase of the project is underway. This includes constructing parking areas, landscaping, and installing informational and directional signage to enhance visitor experience. He emphasised that these efforts align with broader plans to develop Sadah’s tourism and environmental assets in a sustainable and organised manner.
Engineer Ali bin Bakhit Bait Saeed, Director of the Water Resources Department at the Directorate, highlighted the spring’s historical importance as a primary water source for local residents, abalone divers, and livestock, while also supporting local wildlife.
He described the spring as a unique hydrogeological phenomenon, fed by a deep underground aquifer protected from saltwater intrusion, ensuring a continuous flow of fresh, high-quality water.
The maintenance work included site cleaning, basin restoration, reinforced concrete repairs, construction of staircases and walkways for visitor safety, stone retaining walls, and a drainage outlet. In 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR) completed rehabilitation work on 12 water springs across Dhofar Governorate, with active community involvement. — ONA
