MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman will participate in the FITUR 2026 International Tourism Fair, opening next Wednesday in Madrid, as part of its efforts to expand global outreach and strengthen sustainable tourism partnerships.

The exhibition will focus on emerging trends, innovative technologies and sustainable tourism models shaping the global industry. Oman’s pavilion will feature participation from tourism institutions, hospitality companies, hotels and strategic sector partners.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism aims to promote Oman’s tourism offerings, highlight new destinations and products; and engage with Spanish and international tour operators to boost visitor arrivals. The participation will also see the launch of new partnerships and promotional programmes with global stakeholders.

Haitham bin Mohammed al Ghassani, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry and Director General of Tourism Promotion, said Oman’s presence at FITUR aligns with ongoing efforts to diversify tourism products, leverage international expertise and strengthen the global competitiveness of the sector.

He noted that the exhibition provides valuable exposure to innovative tourism technologies and detailed market studies presented by global tourism communication companies, helping Oman better target priority source markets.

Spain remains an important source market for Oman, with visitor arrivals from Spain reaching about 10,749 between January and November 2025. Madrid’s role as a major aviation hub — accounting for 16.5 per cent of global air traffic connections — also positions Spanish operators as key gateways for Latin American tourists to the Middle East. — ONA
