Massive fire kills 6 in Karachi, destroys shopping centre

 Firefighters in Pakistan's largest city were fighting to extinguish a massive blaze on Sunday that had killed six people and reduced parts of a shopping mall to rubble in Karachi's historic downtown.


Videos showed flames rising from the building as firefighters laboured through the night to stop the fire from spreading in the dense business district.


Hundreds of people had gathered around the building, including distraught store owners whose businesses had turned to ash.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the deadly fire at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi, calling the incident tragic and deeply distressing.


He emphasized that protecting citizens’ lives and property remains the government’s highest priority.


Moreover, he said the state stands shoulder to shoulder with affected families. As a result, federal authorities moved swiftly.

The prime minister directed hospitals to provide immediate and the best possible medical care to all injured victims without delay.


He also ordered departments to speed up rescue and relief operations at the site. Furthermore, he stressed that coordination among agencies must remain uninterrupted until operations conclude. Therefore, emergency teams stayed on high alert.
