

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has recorded steady progress in the transport, logistics and digital transformation sectors, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, according to a semi-annual performance bulletin issued by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
The bulletin highlighted that total investment in the transport and logistics sector amounted to RO 2.3 billion during the period from 2021 to 2024, with projections indicating an increase to RO 3.4 billion over the period from 2021 to 2025, reflecting sustained growth in infrastructure and services supporting Oman’s position as a global logistics hub.
In the area of digital transformation, the ministry reported significant expansion in the automation of government services. By the end of 2024, 1,700 basic services out of a total 2,523 had been digitised, with the number expected to rise to 2,277 services by the end of 2025, strengthening efficiency and accessibility across sectors.
Omanisation levels also recorded notable improvement. The percentage of Omani nationals employed in the information technology sector increased from 38 per cent in 2024 to 45.5 per cent in 2025, while Omanisation in the transport and logistics sector rose from 20 per cent to 21.6 per cent over the same period.
The bulletin showed positive indicators in cargo and container movement. Container handling rose from 4.3 million TEUs in 2024 to more than 5 million TEUs in 2025, while general cargo volumes increased from 115.7 million tonnes to over 143 million tonnes, underscoring growth in port activity and trade flows.
Progress was also recorded under the National Digital Transformation Programme, with overall performance improving from 73 per cent in 2024 to 94 per cent in 2025, reflecting accelerated implementation across government entities.
In terms of revenue growth, the transport and logistics sectors posted varying increases, with revenues rising by 18 per cent in land transport, 12.9 per cent in ports, and 6.5 per cent in maritime affairs.
The ministry further noted that 85 per cent of infrastructure projects under the annual implementation plan had been completed by 2025, exceeding the targeted completion rate of 70 per cent, demonstrating strong execution and project delivery.
The bulletin underscores Oman’s continued efforts to build a diversified, digitally enabled economy and reinforce its competitiveness as a regional and international logistics centre.
