MUSCAT: The National Museum has indicated the soft opening of Bayt Al Greiza, a historic mansion located in Old Muscat, originally constructed as part of a Portuguese complex in 1597 and now administered by the National Museum.

The announcement was subtly reflected in the National Museum’s 2025 Calendar, produced with the support of OQ, which features an elegant illustration of Bayt Al Greiza’s inner courtyard.

The artwork, adorned with lilies and jasmine, highlights the building’s architectural charm, showcasing the distinctive heritage of Old Muscat.

According to the National Museum, the calendar brings together a series of artworks that narrate stories from different historical eras, offering visual insights into Oman’s rich cultural legacy. The inclusion of Bayt Al Greiza in the 2025 edition is seen as a strong indication of its forthcoming public opening.

Bayt Al Greiza holds significant historical value, reflecting layers of architectural and cultural influence from the late 16th century. Its transformation into a museum forms part of broader efforts to preserve and present Oman’s heritage in line with national cultural priorities.

The National Museum noted that His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik directed the conversion of Bayt Al Greiza into a museum, to be managed by the National Museum, reinforcing Oman’s commitment to safeguarding historic sites and making them accessible to the public.

Once fully opened, Bayt Al Greiza is expected to serve as an important cultural landmark in Old Muscat, offering visitors deeper insight into the city’s history and architectural evolution.
