

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Information on Thursday hosted a ceremony to honour the winners of the 14th edition of the Reading Competition for Young Learners. The 2025 reading competition was organised by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science. The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Mohammed bin Said al Balushi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Information.
As many as 2,243 male and female students from different schools in the Sultanate of Oman took part in the 14th edition of the Reading Competition, which started in April 2025 and continued until November 2025. The competition consisted of three levels; the first level was for students in grades 5 and 6. This level required each participant to read four books and summarise two others. It focused on Omani personalities, folk tales, popular literature and space science.
The second level was dedicated to students in grades 7 and 8 and included reading 5 books and summarising 3 of them. It focused on Islamic architecture, the role of the Omani family in child upbringing, agriculture and fisheries, natural phenomena and disasters, as well as issues of bullying.
The third level was dedicated to students in grades 9 and 10. It required each participant to read 6 books and summarise 4 of them. This level dealt with Omani diplomacy, digital citizenship, cultural identity, the digital economy, distance education, electronic blackmail and cybersecurity.
