The Muttrah Teleferik cable car project is entering an advanced phase of readiness, marking a major milestone in the development of tourism infrastructure in the Wilayat of Muttrah. According to the latest updates, the project is expected to attract more than four million visitors annually, positioning it among the region’s most prominent urban tourism attractions.
Designed to offer a smooth and scenic experience, the system will operate 18 modern cable cars, each with a capacity of eight visitors, allowing guests to enjoy panoramic views of Muttrah’s coastline, rugged mountains and historic urban landscape. With an operational capacity of around 400 visitors per hour, the teleferik is engineered to efficiently handle high visitor volumes, particularly during peak tourism seasons.
Beyond its role as a transport attraction, the project is envisioned as a catalyst for a wider tourism and leisure ecosystem. It is expected to boost visitor movement across key areas of Muttrah, extend average visitor stay and stimulate new investment opportunities in hospitality, retail and cultural experiences along the route.
Ahead of its anticipated launch in the first quarter of 2026, the cable car services will feature three stations, starting at the Muttrah Fish Market, passing through Hay Al Ward ( the Flower Park), forming a continuous route linking key Muttrah landmarks and expected to be the longest overwater cable car in the Middle East.
Once operational, the Muttrah Teleferik is set to redefine how residents and visitors experience one of Oman’s most iconic destinations, blending modern infrastructure with natural beauty and heritage. The project reflects ongoing efforts to diversify tourism offerings and strengthen Muscat’s position as a vibrant, year-round tourism hub.
