AL BURAIMI: The Al Abila-Al Fayyad road project in Al Buraimi Governorate has reached a completion rate of 42 per cent. The project extends over 42 kilometres and has a total cost exceeding RO 19 million. It begins from the main Sohar-Al Buraimi road at Al Abila.
Scheduled for opening in the second quarter of 2027, the road passes through several villages, including Daqiq, Katna and Skoudi, and extends to the Al Fayyad area.
Azzan bin Abdullah Ambu Ali, Director of the Roads Department in Al Buraimi Governorate, stated that the project is among the most prominent development initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in the governorate.
He noted that the road will serve as a vital artery, enhancing transportation and tourism, particularly given the scenic mountainous landscape. It will also contribute to the development of areas and villages located along the project route.
He explained that the project will significantly improve community mobility, as the route was previously an unpaved dirt road accessible only to four-wheel-drive vehicles, due to the rugged mountainous terrain and the presence of several valleys.
Ambu Ali added that the road will connect villages and service centres, strengthening communication, social ties, daily commuting and other activities, in line with the ongoing development of services in the wilayat. He pointed out that the project has been designed to remain operational in all weather conditions.
The road will be equipped with comprehensive traffic safety features, including concrete and metal barriers, traffic signs, road markings and warning systems.
The project comprises two lanes, each 3.5 metres wide, asphalt shoulders measuring 1.5 metres, bridges over deep valleys, box culverts and water drainage channels to ensure safety during rainfall.
He affirmed that the project will contribute to improving traffic flow and stimulating urban, tourism and economic activity in the governorate.
