Muscat: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning on Sunday handed over housing units in the Khuwair residential scheme in Kamzar village in Khasab, and granted residential land to eligible recipients.
The handover ceremony was attended by Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shueili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, and Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Governor of Musandam.
In all, 17 housing units were delivered to eligible citizens as part of the social housing programme, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to providing suitable housing for citizens. In addition, 30 residential plots were granted to citizens according to the approved grant system within the scheme.
Engineer Rehab bint Salem al Mayahiyah, Director-General of Social Housing and Projects at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, said that the Kamzar village scheme embodies the ministry’s approach to addressing housing challenges in villages through flexible housing solutions to reduce migration of families from their original areas. She added: “Social housing programmes are not limited to providing housing units since they are based on a comprehensive vision aimed at improving the quality of life and empowering families socially. This is achieved by integrating housing with comprehensive urban planning and essential services, thus ensuring long-term housing sustainability.”
She emphasized that implementing social housing projects in locations such as the village of Kumzar reflects the ministry’s commitment to delivering housing services to various governorates and villages despite geographical and logistical challenges in line with the objectives of balanced development and Oman Vision 2040.
The project included the reclamation of 148 residential plots, in addition to three government-owned plots allocated for a school, a mosque, and a health centre, with a total area of approximately 143,000 square metres. It also included the construction of an internal road network exceeding 2,757 metres in length, a 3,630-metre mountain road and a 370-metre coastal road.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning also signed 8 investment usufruct contracts in the industrial and commercial sectors as part of Kumzar village residential scheme with an overall investment value of RO 460,000 on an area of 5,520 square metres.
Meanwhile, joint meeting was held on Sunday in Musandam Governorate under the chairmanship of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Governor of Musandam in the presence of Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shueili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning and members of Majlis Ash’shura and the Municipal Council of Musandam Governorate.
The meeting discussed priority development projects and provided an opportunity to enhance dialogue among various stakeholders regarding the best methods for guiding urban development and addressing the challenges facing housing and urban planning plans, in line with the growing needs of the local community.
The meeting comes within the context of the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional integration among government entities to ensure the continuity of development work at the governorate level in order to achieve the desired goals.
