SALALAH: Basic Industries has funded five industrial projects in Dhofar Governorate under the Innovative Food Products Development Project, in collaboration with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates – Madayn, represented by the Industrial Innovation Academy.

The initiative supports the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 to foster industrial innovation, empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and increase local added value.

Through this project, five SMEs in Dhofar have been provided opportunities to develop new food products, strengthening their ability to successfully reach both local and regional markets.

The project also highlights the vital role of public-private partnerships in promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable industrial innovation.

The initiative provides a comprehensive package of technical, technological and advisory support at Dhofar Laboratories, including evaluating existing products, improving recipes and manufacturing processes, implementing R&D plans, enhancing quality standards, conducting food safety tests, developing brand identities and designing packaging. These measures collectively improve product readiness for local and regional market entry while ensuring sustainability.

The project’s outputs include the development of four innovative food products — frankincense tea, yogurt, coconut juice and frankincense coffee — alongside the ongoing services of Dhofar Laboratories, which assist institutions in improving product quality, maintaining continuous innovation, and creating high-value, market-ready products.

Ahmed bin Abdullah Muqbil, Chief Human Resources and Technology Officer at OQ Basic Industries, emphasised that the project represents an effective model of public-private collaboration, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote local products, enhance SMEs’ competitive capabilities and increase local content. He added that such initiatives have a positive impact on the national economy, encouraging industrial innovation and sustainable development in line with national goals.

The project underscores the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving sustainable development, promoting entrepreneurship, enhancing local value and equipping national products for broader markets.

It also emphasises the role of advanced laboratories and technology in developing food products that meet high-quality standards and can compete both locally and regionally. - ONA
